I agree with you to a certain extent. I spent the past three years in grad school before I quite to take a great job. What I found in the real world was that much of THEORY that I got in my grad program did not apply in my job even though my job was exactly the major I went to school for. The only good things I received in school came from undergrad classes that dished out practical knowledge. This does not mean that I think grad school is a bad option. I actually think its a great option (I just chose the wrong grad school). It's important to find a school that will meet your needs. When I went to grad school I hadn't yet worked a real job and did not really know what my needs were. Now that I have been working for a year in a professional environment I have decided to go back and finish, but not at the same school. I have instead decided to embark on a professional studies masters degree from GW. Hopefully, I get in because I do think that knowledge is power. It just has to be the right knowledge. Theory in my opinion cannot be translated all the times. Sometimes it is just meant to spark intelligent debate.
